I have selected one of my photos from project 2 recording and capturing, I like the energy and colour in this photo but above all I like the texture that the digital enhancements have created. This picture brings me happiness and takes me back to a very enjoyable excercise. Once I reflected on why I liked this picture and why I wanted to develop it the next step was how?. I took out all my previous manipulated papers and the samples of my drawing on paper and from there I choose different markings that I wanted to develop further. I considered the composition of the drawing and layout. I wanted the sunflower to take up most of the page.
I then drew the sunflower with ink and cut some of my manipulated paper to use on the center of the sunflower and on the other flower adding texture and interest as well us different layers to my composision. I also punctured parts of the paper to make it easier to sew with crochet lace thread.
I’ve used a interlink knotting stitch to create the texture of the green plants in the photo.
The photo above is the finish product. I have introduced some beading and lace to create more texture and to add more interest. I think the different thickness of thread and the pieces of manipulated paper work very well together as at times it’s hard to see what is sewn and what is the paper.
Images of the Stitching and beading.
I even like the effect of the holes that the needle has created adding even more texture and a 3D outcome.
Loose knotting and long stitches create added interest.
Reflecting and looking at what I have learnt so far I couldn’t help but notice the similarities of mood and colour in my work and that of Mary Katrantzou (well in the picture below anyway). I started wondering if I am instantly attracted to things and designers that I like or wether I have already been influenced by the artist I researched?
I haven’t done it consciously but obviously, however in my subconscious I have been influenced by Artist that I have researched…or do you think it’s a coincidence?
